LESSON 01 – GRAPHIC EDITING BASICS

QUESTION 1 – DIAMOND TILES

You will create a diamond tiling such as the following (without the word “Campeau’s” in it):

STEPS TO FOLLOW

1-Create a simple diamond.

2-Using copy and paste, carefully create the complete tiling.

3-Move and resize tiling so that diamonds start on all four sides of the image.

DIAMONDS TILING RUBRIC (TI)

Complete and perfect = 5.

Complete.  Minimum mark = 3.
Incomplete. = 0 to 2.5

To calculate mark, start with 5 and consider the following:

  • First placement imperfection = Remove 1
  • Other placement imperfections = Remove 0.5
  • Inaccurate border locations = Remove 0.5 per side.

QUESTION 2 – COLLAGE

Using any graphics software you desire, do a simple collage on a specific theme.  Be sure that the images “work” together.

Note that if you are using Photoshop, you will most likely need to know how to use advanced features such as layers and selections to do this work.

Click here to see an example.  Note that there is a photo that has a key element hidden.  That would lose you a mark.

COLLAGE RUBRIC (APP)

Collage is done.  Looks awesome.  It’s the best one! = 5

Collage is done.  Looks awesome.  = 4 - 4.5

Collage is done.  Looks good. = 4

Collage is done.  Looks ok. = 3

  • Remove 1-2 if there is no background.
  • Remove 1 if collage doesn’t contain 15 photos.
  • Remove 2 if collage doesn’t contain 10 photos.
  • Remove 1-2 if the collage doesn’t have an easily identifiable theme.
  • Remove 1 mark for each image which has a key element missing or hidden.
  • Remove 1 for each image that does not belong (because it is somehow different than the others)
  • Remove 1 for each image that does not belong (because it is somehow different than the others)
    • No different image borders or frames.
    • No obvious difference in image quality (from one image to another).
    • No unwanted text on the image.
