LESSON
08 – LOOK AND FEEL
LOOK AND FEEL
The look and feel of a website is affected by many elements including
font, images, content, website title, background and
font size. However, probably the two
most important factors are colour and layout.
COLOUR
SCIENTIFIC VIEW
Light, as well as some other forms of energy, travel as a wave. The distance between the peak
of each wave is called the wavelength.
Different forms of light have different wavelengths. So our eyes and their colour vision are
really tools that detect the wavelength of light coming at us.
Scientists believe that colour vision was a key in finding food (ripe vs not ripe). Some
now suggest that it may have been a key to understanding other humans’ feelings
and situations (blushing, sick = pale, …).
COLOUR SITE
COLOURS ON THE WEB (http://www.colorsontheweb.com)
a)
This site offers
a color wizard application (see screen capture below) that gives you different
sets of great looking colours! Pretty sweet!
b)
This site also
offers a contrast analyzer that checks text colour versus background colour to
be certain that the contrast is enough to allow for comfortably reading.
c)
Another tool
randomly generates colours and shows how they would look when combined on a
website.
