OVERVIEW

You will create a page-sized poster in Photoshop. The poster can be about any school-appropriate theme that you desire. The goal of the poster is to advertise an item or event.

Some very effective posters are very simple. However, it should be noted that your goal is to showcase your graphic editing skills and decision making. Therefore, you should include several different elements that you have combined. During your presentation, you will have to explain your decision making while you created your work.

SPECIFICATIONS

• Poster size: 8.5 inches by 11 inches at 300 dpi.
  
  Therefore, you image will be 2550 pixels by 3300 pixels.

• To get good print quality, you want to be able to print at about 300 pixels per inch. For a regular page (8.5” x 11”), that means you will have 2550 x 3300 pixels. This is a very large canvas. It will be hard to find photos that will cover even a half of this canvas. Here are some options:
• Take your own photos. The canvas is about 8.4 megapixels in size. A newer camera will do fine for this.
• Find vector graphics because they can be resized without quality loss.
• Use composition to include many small photos.
• Create your own graphics. The web is loaded with neat tutorials that you are welcome to use.
• You can also resize photos but this will likely lead to poor print quality. So don’t overdo it!

• You have permission to use online tutorials. However, your work should certainly not be the result of a single tutorial. Instead, you should get an idea from one tutorial and combine it with other ideas (perhaps from other tutorials).
  
  
• Your presentation will have the following goals:
• Display your poster.
• Explain your composition and graphic editing work.
• What were your original images like?
• Which tutorials did you use?
• How did you combine your images?
• What did you do to create your poster?
• Explain you decision making.
• Where did you get your ideas?
• Why that colour?
• Why that background?
• Why that font?
• Explain what you tried but ended up changing.
• Why did you drop that component?
