LESSON 02 –
VEX ROBOTICS

COMPONENTS NOTE

COMPONENTS

Here is a brief overview of the components found in Vex robotics:

Microcontroller
(VEX ARM Cortex Microcontroller)

This is the robot brain.  It is fully programmable and can power all robot devices.

Joystick

(VEXnet Joystick)

This joystick can communicate with the microcontroller and in turn control your robot.

Communications Keys

(VEXnet Key 2.0)

Two of these keys can be used together to allow a joystick to communicate with the microcontroller.

Motor

(2-wire Motor 393)

This motor can be used for almost all devices whether it be locomotion or manipulation oriented.

Battery

(7.2V Robot Battery NiMH)

This is the power source for the microcontroller as well as the rest of the devices on the robot.

STRUCTURE

Or course, a big part of any robot is the physical body that holds all parts and gives a robot its shape.  Vex structure comes in steel or aluminum.  There are different lengths and shapes to members including c-channels, angles, plates and flat bars.

OTHER PARTS

There are many other parts to vex.  Hundreds of other parts.  You will learn more about them as you work with the robots.
