MINI LESSON 4 – 5V VOLTAGE REGULATORS

 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

·       A voltage regulator is a device that maintains a specific voltage. 

·       The integrated circuits that we will use in class require 5 volts.  So, we will use a voltage regulator that consistently provides 5 volts.  It is known as the 7805 chip.

·        A typical 5V regulator looks like this:

·        Here is how one uses a voltage regulator:

 

              

 

  • Below is the suggested setup for a voltage regulator on a breadboard.  You would connect all components to the top and bottom rows to power them.
