LESSON 02 – CONVERSIONS TO DECIMAL

LESSON NOTE (OPTION 2)

When we are converting specifically from binary to decimal, we can use this table to do the work. This approach requires no thinking. Here are the steps:

1 – Write in the binary number with one digit in each square.

2 – In the bottom row, circle the numbers where there is a one in the top square of the column.

3 – Add the circled numbers. Done!

Example

Convert 0110 0101 to decimal.

Can this be done with other bases? Yes. It is the same thing but the amount of times that you circle an number is the same as the value of the number above.
