LESSON 03 – FLOOR PLANS IN AUTOCAD

 

In this short lesson, we will look at taking a floor plan from a sketch on grid paper to Autocad.

 

LIMITS

 

Your limits should be in millimeters.  Your house is 16m by 12m, or 16000mm by 12000mm.  We want to leave a large enough area around the house.  So we will use the following limits:

 

Limits: 28000, 20000

 

The total procedure to set your limits is the following:

 

1-Type limits and hit enter.

2-Hit enter again to accept the 0,0 as a corner.

3-Specify  limits: 28000, 20000

4-Type z to zoom

5-Type a for all.

 

STEPS

 

1-    Start by drawing the bounding box of your house.  It is 16000 wide by 12000 high.

2-    Use offset and trim tools to add wall thickness (see below for numbers).

 

WALL THICKNESS

 

Interior wall – 150mm thick

External wall – 200 mm thick

Wall with plumbing – 200 mm thick
