SKILLS ONTARIO – PIN & MEDAL DESIGN COMPETITION

WHERE TO START

So where should you start?  Whether you are designing a pin or a medal, or both, you should likely start by doing some research.

THE EVENT

It's probably a good idea to start by researching the event itself.  You can find the website address in the Links section of this website.

THE DIFFERENT SKILLS

One important thing to take away is the list of skills that are being tested.  They include Animation, Auto Service Technology, Baking, Carpentry, Coding, Electronics, Fashion Design, Floristry, Graphic Design, CAD Design, Photography, Plumbing, Robotics and Video Production.

There are so many skills being tested that it is difficult to come up with images/symbols that represent all of them equally.  For example, while a hammer is an excellent image/symbol to represent carpentry, it isn't related to baking or photography.  This is one of the challenges that you will need to figure out.  Can you find enough different images/symbols to represent enough of the skills?  Or should you stick with more abstract ideas?

PAST WINNERS

Take a look at past winners.  Look at the Past Winners section on this site.

Are they very simple?  Or is there a lot of design in them?

Can you see anything that they have in common?

Do you see any symbols that you can use in you medal or pin?
