MAZE GAME
POSSIBLE ADDITIONS

You must do any of the following additions to your maze game. 

·        Your goal is to reach a mark of 15 for the additions. 

·        You will be given a mark of 5 for having 5 good quality levels.

  • You will be given a mark out of 5 for Fun Factor and Wow Factor.  Only one student (the best game) gets 5.  The next best mark is 4.5

Start Screen

Create a start screen.  Start by creating a large image in a program such as Paint.net or Pixlr.  Then create a sprite and object from it.  Then add it to the first room.  Add the functionality that sends the game to the next room when you hit a specific key such as SPACE.

Start Screen - Menu options

Add menu options to your start screen.  Perhaps you allow the player to choose their character’s look.  Or perhaps you allow them to decide the starting equipment they get.

Have a game over screen once you die.  Show your score.

Character - Graphic alteration

Change your character to a different object.  Your object needs to make sense in the game and needs to look good to get the full mark.  You cannot use a graphic that comes with Game Maker.

Character – Facing Direction of Movement

Make your character face the direction that you are moving in.  You can actually use a graphic that comes with Game Maker for this if you want.

Cheats / Hacks 1 – Skip Level

A hotkey allows you to automatically jump to the next room.

Cheats / Hacks 2 – Invincibility

A hotkey renders you invincible.  You need to be able to make yourself vulnerable again.

Cheats / Hacks 3 – Speed Increase

A hotkey makes you go faster.  You should be able to slow down as well.

A hotkey gives you the ability to walk through walls.

A hotkey changes your character’s look.  It could be a different colour.  It could be a different image.

Items – Invincibility

A picked-up item renders your character invincible for a short period of time.

Items – Pacman ability

A pick-up item allows your character to eat the bad guys for a short period of time.

Items – Moving diamonds

A simple upgrade on the existing diamonds.  They simply move around.

Items – Keys for Locked Doors

You pick up keys.  They allow you to open locked doors.

  • Need to show number of keys that you have.
  • Need different picture for locked doors.
  • Door opens if you have key.  Key is consumed.

Teleport Pads

When your character walks on a teleport pad, it is instantly transported to another location.

If your teleport pads work in both directions and can be used multiple times, you get two extra points.

Character Orientation

Your character looks in the direction it is moving.  (See the original tutorial for details.)

Weapons – Shooting Ability

Your character can shoot to destroy badguys.  This is a challenge because the character’s direction impacts the direction of the shooting.

Multiplayer - Versus Mode (Racing From Opposite Ends)

Two players start side by side and have to race to a goal.  You can even have multiple goals and the players have figure out which one is the fastest to get to.

  • Need two players with movement.
  • Need to state the winner.  (What happens if one dies?)
  • Stats should be kept to see who is winning as you continue through the different mazes.

Two players start at opposite ends of a maze.  They race to the other end.

Multiplayer – Coop Mode

Two players work together to beat a room.  They can start at the same place or can start at different locations.  You can make one player get items for another.

  • Need to figure out how death impacts game.
  • Need two players with movement.

Secret Tunnels

There are wall look-alikes that you can actually walk through.  The look-alikes should likely be identical to the other walls.

Any Other Functionality

Any other object with functionality (actions that make it do something) is worth one point or two (sometimes more).  Note that objects that are too similar will not be worth more points.
