WORD STATUE TASK

DESCRIPTION

For this task, you will create your own statue out of text that you manually created.  Your product can be in the form of a statue with a base or in the form of a plaque with a backing to your text.

DETAILS

·        No fonts allowed.  You must design your own letters.  Using a 3 by 5 grid works for most letters.

·        The goal is to give you an opportunity to apply your design knowledge to create an open-ended product.

·        Some commands that could be useful include fillet, chamfer, revolve, …

·        Do not limit yourself to a single word.  Having more letters means more design work.

·        Consider having multiple lines of text.

·        Consider adding design elements or more lettering on the side of the text.

·        Consider adding design elements or text on the face of the base.  You could even have a hidden message somewhere.

·        Consider creating a structure and placing your text on that structure.  For example, you could create a pyramid and place your text on it.  Or a cylinder, and make the text come out of it.

Be creative.  Have fun!  Your product should reflect the provided time given in class.

LEVEL 3 EXEMPLAR

The following example was done as a demo in class.

CREATION SUMMARY

The product’s creation can be summarized by the following steps:

·        Nine letters were sketched and extruded.

·        A base was sketched and extruded.

The timeline also demonstrates this.

COMMENTS

·        All of the letters are well designed and consistent.  However, more innovative letter designs are possible.

·        More should be done with the overall product.  Ask yourself if anything can be added before submitting your work.

For example, adding a simple chamfer to some of the edges adds a little extra to your product:
