PROJECT SUMMARY DOCUMENT

The goal of your write-up is to summarize what you have achieved or attempted to achieve in your project.  It does not need to be a long document.  It should include photos of your project if possible.

Your write-up should include most of the following headings but you are also welcome to follow your own approach if you prefer.

  • Description – Describe your project and how you did it.
  • Data – Data about your project and the process you used to create it.
  • Resources – List of resources (technology / tools / tutorials / websites that you used)  Include a link and a short description of how you used the resource.
  • Successes & Challenges – What went well? What are you proud of?  What challenges did you encounter?
  • What did you learn?  - Simply discuss what you learned while doing the project.
  • Additions and changes – What would you change or add if you had to restart your project?
  • Files – Include all code.  Include photos of your project if applicable.

Here is an example journal:

TEJ 3M Culminating Activity

Summary Document – Arduino Traffic Light

Jimmy TwoShoes

DESCRIPTION

I have created a traffic light intersection model using an Arduino and two traffic light LED modules.  I have included a video of the intersection in action along with this document.

DATA

Attendance: Present 11 out of 12 days
Hours of work at school: 12 hours
Hours of work at home: 4.5 hours
Total hours of work: 16.5 hours
Lines of code: 274 lines
Number of source files: 1 file

RESOURCES

I only used one resource for this project:

Resource #1: Instructible Guide
Link: https://www.instructables.com/LED-Traffic-Light-Module-Using-Arduino-UNO/

Use: I used this guide to get familiar with the LED module on the first day but then I realized that I didn’t need it to move forward.

SUCCESSES & CHALLENGES

I am very satisfied with my project.  It is a functioning traffic light like I set out to create.

The main challenge that I encountered was with the programming of the Arduino.  However, in the end, I fully understand the program.

WHAT DID I LEARN?

I never used the traffic light modules before and I found them very interesting to work with.

I had limited experience working with Arduino and the programming aspect.  Now I am more confident in this area and would be able to take on an even more demanding project.

CHANGES OR ADDITIONS

If I would restart the project, I would consider adding:

  • more LED light modules to simulate a full intersection;
  • a crosswalk light that could optionally delay all traffic lights to allow pedestrians to pass
  • a train track crossing at the intersection or perhaps beside the intersection

FILES

I have included the following files for this project:

  • journal document
  • project summary document (this document)
  • video of my traffic light in action

NOTE FROM MR CAMPEAU

Good work Jimmy.  While I have seen your work in class, a few photos could have added a lot to your document.  I think a circuit diagram would also be a nice addition.
